The annual Seedy Saturday event returns to the Lethbridge Public Library Main Branch this weekend, offering residents a free opportunity to connect with local gardening experts and prepare for the upcoming growing season. The event will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the North Wing and Community Meeting Room at 810-5th Avenue South.
Organized by Environment Lethbridge, which has hosted the gathering since 2017, the day features a variety of resources for local food and horticulture. Attendees can participate in a seed swap where no previous contribution is required to take seeds home, as well as a new indoor plant swap hosted by The Sill and Soil and Urbane Eight. More than 20 local businesses and community organizations will exhibit at the event, including the Lethbridge and District Horticultural Society, Wildrose Heritage Seeds, and local gardening authors Sheryl Normandeau and Janet Melrose.
Three free workshops are scheduled throughout the afternoon to provide hands-on gardening advice. From 1:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., participants can learn how to build an olla for water conservation. This will be followed by a session on traditional connections to sustainability with Api’soomaahka (William Singer III) of Naapi’s Garden from 2:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The final workshop, focusing on supporting backyard pollinators, will be presented by Paige Rosner of the Helen Schuler Nature Centre from 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In addition to the library activities, the City of Lethbridge Waste and Environment department is providing free compost. Residents can pick up the compost at the Civic Ice Centre parking lot on the east side of Stafford Drive. The local event is part of a national movement coordinated by Seeds of Diversity Canada to promote biodiversity and local food production.
The library is a member of the Chinook Arch Regional Library System, and this event is open to residents of all ages.
