Environment Canada ended a wind warning for Lethbridge, Alberta, on February 27, 2026, as the threat of dangerous gusts began to ease across the region.
The federal weather agency updated the local status to show no alerts in effect at 10:38 AM on Friday. The warning had been in place since February 25, 2026, when officials cautioned that west winds could reach speeds between 110 and 130 kilometres per hour.
According to Environment Canada, recent observations at the local airport showed that wind speeds have now dropped to about 18 kilometres per hour. While the strongest winds have passed, the community is moving into a period of colder temperatures and potential snowfall.
Forecasters expect between five and ten centimetres of snow to fall through Friday night as temperatures drop to a low of -12°C. Residents should remain cautious of icy patches on the roads and blowing snow that may limit visibility for drivers.
Lethbridge is historically the second windiest city in the country and frequently sees these types of wind events during the late winter. The change from high winds to a cold front is a common weather pattern for the area at this time of year.
