The Town of Lincoln, Ontario, has designated February 1–28, 2026, as Black History Month and will host a series of workshops and community events to mark the observance. The year also marks the 30th anniversary of Canada’s national recognition of Black History Month; the House of Commons passed the motion in December 1995 and the first national observance took place in February 1996.

Residents can participate in a range of programs at the Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre. Highlights on the museum calendar include Homeschool Day @ the Museum — 1908 Schoolhouse: “A Day in the Life of a Student in 1908” (Feb. 6, 2026, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.); STEAM Saturday — Paint with Grape Juice: The Science of Colour (Feb. 7, 2026, 10–11:30 a.m.); Artifacts & Imagination: A Mindful Art Journey (Feb. 7, 1–3 p.m.); and STEAM Studio PA Day Camp, a full-day STEAM-focused museum camp (Feb. 13, 2026, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.). The museum also offers themed Explorer Backpacks and other self-guided activities throughout February.

Programming will emphasize local history, including the life and contributions of Richard Pierpoint, a Black Loyalist associated with the formation of a “Coloured Corps” in the Niagara region; Pierpoint has been designated a National Historic Person by Parks Canada. The town says it is moving beyond symbolic recognition to integrate Black history into municipal and cultural programming.

Funding for cultural and recreation programming is part of the Town of Lincoln’s 2026 budget, which municipal leaders say was “shaped by the voices and priorities of the people who call Lincoln home” and which shows a 4.98% overall increase with allocations that include Economic Development, Communications, Tourism & Culture. Most museum workshops require pre-registration.
