The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) is investigating an armed robbery that occurred on January 23, 2026, and which has regional implications for nearby communities including Lincoln, Ontario. A lone male suspect brandished a handgun inside a Fort Erie convenience store and fled in a vehicle that was last seen heading toward local highways.

At approximately 7:40 p.m. on Friday, January 23, the suspect entered a convenience store on Bertie Street near North Street in Fort Erie, showed a handgun to the clerk and demanded money. According to local news reports and the NRPS media release, the clerk complied and the suspect was given a quantity of currency before he drove away in a black sedan.

Police say the suspect was last seen travelling northbound on High Street. High Street provides direct access to the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), the primary artery connecting Fort Erie with Lincoln and other Niagara communities; because of that connection the investigation is of regional concern and detectives are appealing for any relevant video footage from the area and along possible routes.

The suspect is described by police as a white male, approximately 25 years old and about 5 ft. 10 in. During the incident he was wearing a brown winter jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants, brown and black work boots, a red and black toque, and a dark-coloured facemask.

5 District Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) has carriage of the investigation. The NRPS is asking any residents or businesses in the area of Bertie Street to review their video surveillance footage for images of the suspect or the black sedan and to contact police with any information.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at (905) 688-4111, option 3, extension 1009538. The NRPS incident number for this file is 2026-9514.
