Starting February 10, 2026, the Lunenburg Library in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, will begin hosting a new series of free, biweekly “Hands-On Art Sessions” (registration required; call 902-634-8008).
These biweekly (every other Tuesday) afternoon sessions typically last 90 minutes to two hours and give residents a chance to learn different crafts and meet other people in the community.
Each workshop focuses on a specific project — examples include weaving, needle felting, and gel plate printing — with projects rotating each session.
The library provides all materials and specialized tools, allowing residents to “test-drive” techniques and equipment without the upfront expense of buying costly supplies.
The program is run by South Shore Public Libraries and takes place at the Lunenburg Library branch housed in the historic Lunenburg Academy (97 Kaulbach St.).
The initiative helps fill a local gap left by some studios and commercial craft spaces (for example, the former Lunenburg Makery) that have shifted to online-only or private models.
Because tools such as looms and printing plates are limited, registration is required; call 902-634-8008 to register. Sessions typically have limited capacity to prioritize hands-on engagement.
The workshops are part of a broader effort by South Shore Public Libraries to position the branch as a community “Maker Hub,” providing free access to specialized materials and fostering skill-sharing and social connection in the South Shore creative community.
