The Town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, has postponed its scheduled curbside waste collection from Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, to Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, after a severe winter storm battered the South Shore.
Town officials said heavy snow and high winds left some secondary and narrow streets impassable for large collection vehicles and delayed removal so public works crews could clear roads and sidewalks without obstacles such as bins or bags.
Residents are asked not to place waste at the curb until the morning of collection and to keep bags and bins on their property until Friday to avoid interfering with snow-clearing operations. The Town of Lunenburg advises residents to have items out for collection by 6:00 a.m. on the new date; regional guidance from the Lunenburg Regional Community Recycling Centre notes curbside deadlines vary by area (commonly 7:00 a.m. in parts of the district).
Leaving bins on the street during snow removal can lead to property damage or fines under the Town’s Solid Waste Management By-law. Local weather and community bulletins, including the CKBW South Shore Storm Centre and South Shore Waste Solutions (the Lunenburg Regional Community Recycling Centre operator), reported multiple cancellations and rescheduled collections across the South Shore earlier in the week.
The Friday pickup will collect the town’s standard four streams — garbage (clear bags), recyclables (blue bags), organics (green carts), and paper — so residents should ensure materials are sorted correctly and placed out by the early-morning deadline to avoid being missed. For the most up-to-date information or further changes, residents should check the Town of Lunenburg website, the South Shore Waste Solutions / Lunenburg Regional Community Recycling Centre site, or sign up for R6RECYCLES notifications.
