The Town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, is closing parts of two downtown streets today, January 28, 2026, to haul away heavy snow. Town crews will be clearing Lincoln Street from Falkland Street to Kempt Street and King Street from Montague Street to Cumberland Street. Work is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a second shift planned from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; the town advisory says the roads will be closed to through traffic and on-street parking during those periods.

The cleanup follows a winter storm that dropped about 35 centimetres of snow across parts of the South Shore between Jan. 25 and 27, 2026. Environment Canada reported prolonged, multi-day snowfall over that period that left large banks and narrowed streets in Old Town Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making some roads difficult to navigate. The town says crews will use loaders and dump trucks to lift and truck snow away so emergency vehicles and delivery traffic can get through.

Drivers who usually park on the street are asked to move their vehicles to off‑street municipal lots (for example, the Community Centre lot or the town’s Lincoln Street or Blockhouse Hill lots). Under the town’s winter parking rules and the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act, vehicles obstructing snow removal may be moved or towed at the owner’s expense.

CBC News and other outlets reported widespread cancellations and cleanup operations across the province after the storm. The town advisory asks motorists to follow posted signage and directions from crews; the Research Dossier also noted alternate routes including Pelham Street or roads along the Back Harbour to avoid the work zones.
