On January 8, 2026, Mattawa, Ont. residents gained a new way to support their local 19‑bed hospital with the launch of an official PayPal Giving Fund page for Hôpital de Mattawa Hospital. The page lists the hospital’s Canada Revenue Agency number (107678401RR0001), allowing tax‑deductible donations to be made to support equipment and capital projects.

Donations made through the PayPal Giving Fund on PayPal’s site are granted to the named charity with PayPal covering the payment‑processing fees so that 100% of the donation amount goes to registered Canadian charities; however, currency‑conversion fees may apply and some third‑party partner platforms may charge fees in certain cases. Donors can use credit cards, bank accounts or PayPal balances to make one‑time or recurring gifts from within Canada, though recurring options can be limited depending on the payment flow.

The fundraising push follows a budget shortfall in late 2024 when the hospital was publicly described as operating “in the red.” In December 2024 the Ontario government provided a permanent increase to the hospital’s base funding of $259,311 (about $260,000) to stabilise operations, but additional support is still being sought for upgrades such as new radiology equipment and cardiac monitors.

“Your general donations help support local health care excellence through the purchase of capital equipment. Thank you for your contributions to the sustainability of healthcare in Mattawa!” — Hôpital de Mattawa donations page (Jan. 8, 2026).
