On early February 2026, Unison Alberta released a resource roundup to help seniors and their family caregivers in Medicine Hat, Alberta, find local help. The update highlights essential services that support older adults to live at home comfortably while reducing stress for family caregivers.

The central hub for these programs is the Veiner Centre (225 Woodman Ave SE), which offers a range of social activities, fitness and classes, meals programming, and health-navigation supports such as Unison Connect. Unison has circulated a Caregiver Resources Bulletin and maintains local bulletins that list contact details for transportation services and health-navigation supports, including Veiner Vintage Transport and Unison Connect.

Included in the roundup is the Meals on Wheels program, which provides hot meals (delivered by trained volunteers) and friendly social visits to residents who have difficulty preparing meals or leaving their homes. The organization also operates the Veiner Vintage Transport service, run by volunteers who drive seniors to priority appointments and essential errands.

This push for local support follows the December 2025 announcement of a ‘Caring for the Caregiver’ workshop that was scheduled for Jan. 15, 2026, aimed at helping family caregivers manage burnout. Local primary care providers are increasingly using social prescribing — for example, Palliser Primary Care Network providers can refer patients to community programs such as Veiner Centre memberships or Meals on Wheels — to help improve patients’ health and well-being at home.
