Residents in Milton, Ontario, are seeing early signs of the 2026 municipal election season as community groups and candidates begin discussing key local issues. This early activity comes as the town prepares for a vote that will help shape the community for years to come.

The official vote will take place on October 26, 2026, but the formal process starts several months earlier. According to the Town of Milton, the window for people to officially sign up as candidates opens on May 1 and closes at 2:00 PM on August 21, 2026.

Mayor Gord Krantz has described the town’s current status as “business as usual,” though he has not yet announced if he will run for re-election. A major topic for the upcoming season is the CN Intermodal Hub, which is expected to start operations this year and impact local traffic and land use in the area.

Campaign activity is already beginning among incumbents and challengers, including Ward 1 Councillor George Minakakis, who joined the council following a by-election in late 2025. Local groups are also promoting an initiative called Elect Respect, which aims to combat toxic political culture and maintain a positive environment as the community debates the town budget and growth-related projects like new roads and sewers.
