Halton Region has started a legal process to gain access to private property in Milton, Ontario, to build and maintain new water and sewer systems. On February 26, 2026, the region filed a formal notice to secure rights for underground work, which includes installing sewers, water lines, pipes, and hydrants.
The project affects land in the Trafalgar New Survey area, specifically across Lots 1 through 5 in Concessions 4, 5, and 6. According to Halton Region, the request includes permanent rights to keep and repair the underground pipes, as well as temporary access for five years to allow for construction and heavy equipment staging.
These upgrades are part of a larger plan to support local growth and provide reliable water services to the community. While property owners will still own their land, the region will have the right to enter and dig in specific areas to manage the utility lines.
Under provincial law, residents whose property is affected have 30 days from the date of the notice to request a hearing of necessity to discuss if the plan is fair and necessary. Affected neighbours can contact the region to see maps of the project area or learn more about how they will be compensated for the use of their land.
