A group of 13 volunteers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Milton East — members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) — spent January 26 and 27, 2026 clearing more than 40 driveways for free to help neighbours in Milton, Ontario. The team focused on helping seniors and people with disabilities who were stuck after a record winter storm.

According to Environment Canada, the storm dumped 46 centimetres of snow in a single 24‑hour period at the Toronto Pearson station — the nearest official station to Milton. That contributed to the snowiest January on record for the area, with 88.2 centimetres of total snowfall measured across the community as of January 28, 2026.

Reports in Inside Halton showed the heavy snow caused many local closures and made it difficult for residents to leave their homes safely. The volunteer team prioritised homes near Derry Road and James Snow Parkway to make sure vulnerable residents had a clear path to their doors.

The Ahmadiyya Journal reported the group used shovels to remove thick piles of ice and snow left at the end of driveways by municipal plows. Residents said the volunteers worked quickly, moving from house to house without accepting payment.

Organizers said the free service is part of their commitment to helping neighbours during difficult times. The group plans to keep volunteer teams ready to help throughout the rest of the winter season whenever heavy snow hits the community.
