The Milton Public Library has launched a new drop-in program for toddlers at its Sherwood Branch in Milton, Ontario. Called “One is Wonderful,” the sessions are designed specifically for children between 12 and 23 months old to help them develop early reading and social skills through play.
These sessions are held at the Sherwood Branch, which is located inside the Sherwood Community Centre on Main Street West. The program focuses on simple activities like singing, dancing, and playing with bubbles to keep toddlers engaged while they learn the basics of communication.
According to the Milton Public Library, the first five years of a child’s life are the most important for brain development. The library works with the Milton Community Resource Centre to provide these free services to local families who often face long waitlists for other types of structured childcare.
Parents and caregivers do not need to sign up in advance for the classes. Because space is limited, Christopher Benitez and his team at the branch hand out entry tickets at the customer service desk 15 minutes before each session starts.
The addition of these sessions follows a major update to the library system on January 2, 2025. This change was designed to make it easier for residents to find and attend local events that support early childhood education across the community.
