Newcomers to Canada can now improve their language skills through free weekly English conversation classes at the Milton Public Library Main Branch in Milton, Ontario. These sessions are designed to help new residents feel more comfortable speaking and listening to English in a relaxed environment.

The program is a joint effort with the Halton Multicultural Council and takes place every Tuesday at 1010 Main St E. Classes are divided into two levels, with basic sessions running from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM and intermediate/advanced sessions from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM.

The main goal of these circles is to help immigrants and refugees build the confidence they need for daily life and social interactions. By participating, residents can practice their skills with volunteers and meet other people who are also new to the community.

Registration is mandatory for all participants, and those interested should sign up through HMC Connections. Because space is limited, the library is unable to accept walk-in attendees for these specific sessions to ensure the groups remain a helpful size for learning.

The library also offers extra support for those settling in the area, including a special kit to help residents study for their Canadian citizenship test. These resources aim to make it easier for people to access local services and feel at home in the region.
