On Monday, February 16, 2026 (Family Day), families in Miramichi, New Brunswick, can enjoy a free day of sliding and winter activities at French Fort Cove. The event is scheduled to run from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., pending final confirmation.
The New Brunswick Social Pediatrics (NBSP) team is organizing the day with Miramichi Canoes, with consulting support from Grand Bay-Westfield Winterfest. Their goal is to make sure all children can enjoy the outdoors together by removing the cost barrier to winter equipment.
Norman Betts of Miramichi Canoes will provide a fleet of hand-crafted wooden toboggans and kick-sleds for families to borrow at the hill. Customers have described Betts’s handcrafted toboggans as ‘a rocket — very fast’ (Saltscapes Magazine); the workshop’s heirloom wooden sleds and kicksleds are being made available to give families access to higher-quality gear they might not otherwise own.
The event will be held on the sliding hills within French Fort Cove, the city’s primary sliding hill and multi-season nature park. By offering free activities and equipment on the Family Day statutory holiday, the partnership aims to help more residents get active and stay connected with their community.
