On February 28, 2026, residents will walk through downtown Miramichi, New Brunswick, to raise money for people struggling with homelessness and hunger. The event is part of the national Coldest Night of the Year campaign, which sees people walk in the winter cold to raise awareness of the challenges faced by those without a permanent home.

The local fundraising goal this year is $45,000. Funds raised will support Miramichi Housing Solutions Inc. to keep local services running. These funds help pay for the daily operational costs of the Miramichi Youth House and the Miramichi Adult Emergency Shelter on King George Highway.

Organizers say the money is needed to provide beds and outreach programs that help people find long-term housing. Residents can participate by joining a team for a two-kilometre or five-kilometre walk in the downtown area, or by making a donation online. Check-in/registration for the main event typically begins at 4:00 PM at St. James and St. Johns United Church Centre (556 King George Hwy), with the walk scheduled to start at 5:00 PM.
