The Greater Miramichi Service Commission (GMSC) is hosting an Employer “Open Mic” on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in Miramichi, New Brunswick. The event is intended to help local businesses and job seekers connect by giving employers a short floor time to talk about open positions and the recruitment challenges they face.

Designed as a more relaxed alternative to a traditional job fair, the meeting will use a moderated “open mic” format where business owners can briefly describe the roles they need to fill. Residents looking for work will have the chance to meet hiring managers directly and ask questions about the local job market during informal networking.

The initiative aligns with GMSC’s expanded regional economic-development mandate following recent provincial reforms that increased the role of Regional Service Commissions in local economic growth. A 2026 labour‑market forecast from JPMorgan suggests the first half of 2026 may bring uncomfortably slow national job‑market growth, making local networking and targeted supports more important — and local employers continue to report chronic vacancies in skilled trades and service sectors.

Attendees will also be able to learn about available training programs and hiring supports from provincial partners (for example, WorkingNB wage‑subsidy and training programs) intended to help small businesses hire and train workers.
