The Municipality of Mississippi Mills, Ontario, is adding a $2 fee for residents who receive their water and property tax bills through the mail. The municipality says the charge is intended to cover the costs of paper, envelopes and postage while encouraging the community to switch to digital services.
The extra charge will be added to paper water bills starting in March 2026. For property tax statements, the fee will begin appearing on bills sent out in June 2026.
According to municipal notices and Council records, the change was part of the 2026 Fees and Charges review intended to recover the real costs of mailing documents and encourage digital billing. The municipality says the fee helps recover printing and postage costs and supports efforts to reduce paper use.
Residents can avoid the $2 charge by signing up for digital statements through the e-billing portal. Those who do not sign up for e-billing will be charged the $2 fee on paper statements.
