The Mississippi Mills Youth Centre (MMYC) and Trellis Mental Health Support Strategies are hosting a public education night for parents and caregivers in Mississippi Mills, Ontario, on January 22, 2026. The session will take place at the Almonte branch of the Mississippi Mills Public Library and is intended to help families understand how technology and sleep habits impact the mental health of children and youth.

The event, titled Navigating Sleep, Tech and Youth Wellbeing, features presentations from local mental health professionals followed by a moderated question-and-answer period. Beth (a Registered Nurse) and Patrick (a Registered Social Worker), founders of Trellis Mental Health, will share practical ways for parents to set healthy boundaries around screen time and technology use (including social media) and to support meaningful conversations at home. The Millstone reports the evening is focused on realistic, relationship-based approaches that help parents feel more confident, informed and connected.

To help more people attend, the event is offered on a Pay-What-You-Can basis, with proceeds supporting youth programming at MMYC and panelist honorariums. An age-appropriate activity space will be available at the MMYC for youth ages 5 and up (advance registration required by emailing executivedirector@mmyc.ca by the deadline noted on the event page). This partnership aims to make mental health support and education more accessible for local residents.

The evening is designed for parents and caregivers of youth and will especially benefit those concerned about digital habits or poor sleep. Interested residents can sign up through the Trellis Mental Health workshops page at trellishealth.ca/workshops. The event starts at 7:00 PM and runs until 9:30 PM.
