Starting January 1, 2026, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills, Ontario will begin an Enhanced Recycling Program. The municipality posted a notice in late 2025 and residents can download the 2026 Recycling Guide and Calendar (published by Circular Materials) to learn more about the changes.
Under Ontario’s Extended Producer Responsibility framework, producers of packaging — administered locally by Circular Materials — will cover the costs and management of recycling rather than local taxpayers. As part of the switch, Miller Waste Systems will be the curbside collection contractor and the direct contact for missed collections or recycling-bin replacements (1-888-852-2374; area2@millerwaste.ca).
The updated guide expands the list of acceptable blue-bin materials. Residents can now recycle items such as black plastic food containers, hot and cold beverage cups, toothpaste tubes, deodorant (empty) and ice cream tubs, among others. Recycling in Mississippi Mills remains a two-stream system (paper/fibre in one stream, containers in the other); the full list of new materials and any sorting rules are in the 2026 guide.
Residents should download the 2026 Recycling Guide and Calendar to find their specific collection dates and to confirm contact information. Garbage and organics pickup continue to be managed by the municipality and are not affected by this change.
