On December 17, 2025, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills has scheduled a Committee of Adjustment meeting to decide on minor variance and potential land‑severance (consent) applications that could affect local property owners. As one of the last statutory planning sessions of the year, the committee will consider requests such as reduced setbacks, secondary dwelling units and other zoning exceptions in the context of the recently adopted Official Plan Amendment 28 and the ongoing MM2048 growth strategy.
The Committee of Adjustment is a quasi‑judicial body composed of citizen appointees and supported by the Mississippi Mills Planning Department. It will hear presentations from applicants, review staff reports prepared by planning staff (reports may be authored or overseen by Senior Planner Melanie Knight) and take comments from neighbours before voting. Applicants for minor variances are evaluated against four statutory tests — whether the variance maintains the intent of the Official Plan, maintains the intent of the Zoning By‑law, is desirable for the appropriate development or use of the land, and is minor in nature — and decisions are subject to a 20‑day appeal period to the Ontario Land Tribunal.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. in a hybrid format. The Municipality’s Committee of Adjustment schedule notes that meetings are currently being held via Zoom at 4:30 p.m.; in‑person participation details should be confirmed on the posted agenda or by emailing mplanner@mississippimills.ca. Agendas and staff recommendations are available in the Committee of Adjustment meeting schedule and on the municipality’s CivicWeb portal. Residents within 60 metres of an application site receive mailed notices; those who wish to participate should consult the agenda or contact planning staff for registration and virtual access information.
Decisions at this session will help shape development proposals in 2026, particularly applications tied to gentle density in Almonte’s core or new secondary suites in Ramsay and Pakenham. Property owners and developers can review the posted agenda to see if their applications are listed and may submit questions to planning staff before the meeting date.
