The Mississippi Mills Council met on March 10, 2026, to update financial policies and support new transportation options for the community in Ontario. During the meeting, officials focused on stabilizing the local budget and addressing upcoming provincial changes that could affect residents.
Council members approved a plan to move more than $3.7 million into special accounts to ensure the municipality has enough money for daily operations and long-term building projects. This decision followed a financial review by KPMG and included merging two separate fire department accounts into one.
The council also directed the mayor to support a provincial proposal from MPP John Jordan that aims to bring rideshare services like app-based car rides to rural areas. Additionally, the town approved a rule change to allow for more semi-detached homes to be built in the community.
Residents now have more time to share their thoughts on the proposed ALTO high-speed train project. The deadline for public comments on the potential impacts of the rail line has been moved to April 24, 2026.
