The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) has issued a flood outlook statement for Mississippi Mills, Ontario, as water levels rise this March 2026. The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) has also issued alerts for the neighboring Rideau watershed as unseasonably warm weather and heavy rain cause snow to melt quickly across the region.

The increase in river levels follows significant rainfall that began around March 6, 2026. While widespread flooding has not occurred yet, officials are warning that low-lying areas and fields near the Mississippi River are at risk of holding water as the spring freshet begins.

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills is monitoring local riverbanks to keep the community safe. Residents who live in flood-prone areas should keep a close watch on the water and be ready for conditions to change as the spring runoff continues.

Safety officials from Lanark County advise everyone to stay away from the banks of rivers and creeks where the water is moving fast. They also recommend staying clear of culverts, as the fast-moving water can be dangerous and unpredictable.

Drivers are reminded to never attempt to travel through flooded roads. It is important to avoid these areas entirely to ensure personal safety during this period of high water.
