Environment Canada issued a blowing snow advisory for Morden, Manitoba, on Friday, February 27, 2026, warning residents of near-zero visibility and hazardous driving conditions. The alert, which also covers Winkler and the R.M. of Stanley, was released at 4:26 AM as strong winds began moving through the region.

According to Environment Canada, wind gusts from the northwest are expected to reach between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour throughout the day. These high winds are picking up recent snow, which will likely result in visibility being reduced to almost nothing at times.

Local officials warn that the morning and afternoon commutes will be significantly impacted, and some roads may be closed if conditions become too dangerous. Temperatures are also forecast to drop to -16°C by the afternoon, with wind chills reaching -28, creating a risk of frostbite for anyone outside.

While no formal closures were announced at the time of the advisory, local organizations like the Western School Division typically monitor weather conditions to decide on bus cancellations. Residents are encouraged to postpone any travel that is not essential until the blowing snow subsides.

Conditions are expected to improve from the northwest to the southeast as the system moves out of the area on Friday night. Drivers who must be on the road should check for updates via Manitoba 511 and be prepared for sudden changes in road safety.
