Morden Fire & Rescue officers and driver operators in Morden, Manitoba, finished hands-on training for a new 100-foot ladder truck on February 21, 2026. This new vehicle gives the team a longer reach and a safer way to handle fires and rescues in buildings with several floors.
The truck, which arrived in the community on January 10, 2026, features a platform bucket at the top of the ladder. This allows crews to stand in a stable area high in the air and spray water directly down onto a fire from above the roofline.
This equipment replaces a 29-year-old truck that had a shorter 75-foot ladder. The older truck was sold to the Pembina-Manitou Fire Department to help with emergency responses in the nearby region.
The new 2012 model has enough seating for six firefighters and includes a pump that can move 2,000 gallons of water every minute. Fire Chief Tim Reimer says the upgrade is an important step in keeping the community safe as more tall buildings are built in the city.
