The City of Morden has officially opened five new public electric vehicle charging stations, giving residents and visitors a convenient way to power up their vehicles within the community. These stations became available for public use in early 2026, marking a significant addition to local infrastructure.
The charging stations are split between two key locations. The Access Event Centre at 100-195 Stephen Street now features two standard charging units and one high-speed 200-kilowatt fast charger. The fast charger is compatible with both CCS and J3400 NACS plugs. Additionally, two standard chargers have been installed at 500 Stephen Street.
To pay for the project, the city secured $156,000 in combined funding through the Manitoba Climate Action Fund and the Manitoba Motor Dealers Association Lead The Charge program. The provincial government has committed $500,000 through the Climate Action Fund to support the installation of 51 chargers across the province, with the Morden project serving as an early example of this initiative.
The new stations are designed to be self-sustaining. User fees will cover all costs related to electricity, maintenance, and ongoing upkeep, ensuring that the charging network is not subsidized by the city on an ongoing basis.
