The City of Morden, Manitoba, has called for a public hearing to discuss its 2026 financial plan, giving residents a chance to weigh in on future taxes and local spending. The city posted the official notice on February 5, 2026, as part of the yearly process to set the municipal budget.
This meeting is the primary way for people in the community to see how the city plans to use public money for services and construction projects over the coming year. Residents can speak directly to the Morden City Council about the plan before it is officially approved and sent to the provincial government.
Last year, the city’s budget included a 5.16 percent property tax increase to help pay for important infrastructure. A major priority for the city remains the $70 million wastewater treatment facility, which is necessary to allow for more housing and business growth.
According to Mayor Nancy Penner, the city has already started working on a $4.5 million sewer line to Winkler to provide temporary relief while the larger plant is being built. City Manager Nicole Reidle and the finance department are responsible for preparing the plan for the public to review.
Any proposed changes to water and sewer rates in the new plan must also be reviewed by the Public Utilities Board. The city must submit its final financial plan to the province by May 15, 2026.
