The Town of Morris Council in Manitoba approved an agreement on February 26, 2026, to extend natural gas service into the local industrial park. This infrastructure project is designed to make the area more attractive for manufacturing and processing businesses that could provide new jobs for residents.
Under the new agreement with Manitoba Hydro, the town will pay for the installation of the natural gas main extension. Chief Administrative Officer Arien Peterson is now authorized to sign the contract and send the required payment to get the work started.
The industrial park first opened in 2019 to help grow the local tax base and create new ways for the town to earn revenue. Since then, more than 25 per cent of the land has seen interest from potential buyers, and 10 per cent of the lots have already been sold.
This move is part of a larger plan by the town and its partners in the municipalities of Montcalm and Emerson-Franklin to create more business opportunities along Highway 75. Potential developers can also use the Invest Morris website to research investment options in the community.
