A brief heat warning for Morris has ended as a cold front pushed through the region overnight, bringing temperatures back to seasonal levels. Environment Canada issued the alert over the weekend for parts of southeastern Manitoba, including the Rural Municipality of Morris and communities like Rosenort and Aubigny. The warning highlighted humidex values reaching 38 over the weekend.
By Monday morning, the heat warning was no longer in effect, with temperatures around 22°C and a humidex of 27. The cold front swept through Sunday night into Monday morning, breaking the heat and returning conditions to more typical July weather.
However, the relief is expected to be short-lived. Environment Canada forecasts temperatures climbing again through the week, reaching a high of 34°C by Saturday, July 25. Sunday could see a sunny high of 33°C, meaning residents should prepare for another round of hot weather.
During heat events, Manitoba Health advises people to stay hydrated, avoid leaving anyone or pets in parked vehicles, and check on vulnerable neighbours. Spending time in air-conditioned spaces during the hottest afternoon hours is also recommended. Environment Canada issues heat warnings in southern Manitoba when temperatures reach 32°C or humidex values hit 38 for two or more consecutive days.
