The Morris Mavericks hockey team took a big step toward a strong playoff position after beating the W.C. Miller Aces 4-2 on February 1, 2026. Playing on the road in Altona at Sunflower Gardens (the Millennium Exhibition Centre), the team from Morris, Manitoba, jumped to a fast start with three goals in the first period and held on for the win.

The victory helps the Mavericks keep their spot as one of the top three teams in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League as the regular season draws to a close. By scoring three times early in the game, Morris was able to control the pace even when the home team tried to catch up later.

The Mavericks are a co‑op program made up of student‑athletes from Morris School and École Héritage / École Communautaire Réal‑Bérard. According to the Town of Morris, this joint program allows players from different schools to compete together under one banner.

This win is especially important because the Mavericks are defending their pedigree after winning the MHSAA ‘AA’ provincial championship in the 2024–25 season. The Manitoba High School Athletic Association oversees the Zone 4 league, which features a long‑standing rivalry between the neighbouring towns of Morris and Altona.
