Residents in the Rural Municipality of Morris, Manitoba, are facing life-threatening freezing temperatures as a severe weather alert continues through the upcoming weekend. The warning covers the entire municipality, including the communities of Rosenort and Aubigny.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, wind chill values are expected to drop as low as -40 to -45. This orange-level warning indicates a significant risk to health, as frostbite can develop on exposed skin within minutes.

Manitoba Health is urging everyone to watch for signs of hypothermia and to limit time spent outdoors. These extreme conditions are caused by a mass of Arctic air that has settled over the region.

Drivers and commuters are encouraged to monitor Manitoba 511 for updates on local road conditions and potential closures. Keeping an emergency kit in your vehicle is recommended, as the extreme cold can cause mechanical parts to break or lead to dangerous conditions on Highway 75.

Weather experts say the wind chill may improve slightly during the day but will return to dangerous levels every night until the cold snap breaks. Local school bus services may also face disruptions if the wind chill reaches the -45 mark.
