The Rural Municipality of Morris, Manitoba, will begin repairing a collapsed section of Pleasant Valley Road this February to reopen a vital route for local farmers and residents. According to a public notice from the RM of Morris, a contract has been awarded to fix the massive hole that has kept the road closed since 2023. The area remains closed to all public access until the work is finished.

The repair site is located east of Provincial Road 422 near Rosenort, where heavy spring runoff caused the underground drainage pipes to fail and the road to cave in. Deputy Reeve Mervin Dueck previously told local news that fixing the damage would likely cost more than $1.2 million because the entire pipe system needs to be replaced. The project will involve stabilizing the river bank and installing a larger drainage system to handle heavy water flow.

While some early preparation work will start next month, the most significant construction is planned for the summer of 2026. Reeve Scott Siemens stated that fixing local infrastructure is a top priority in the municipality’s newest budget, as reported by local news. The council aims to move away from temporary fixes toward long-term solutions for the community.

The road has been impassable for nearly three years, forcing large farm machinery and local drivers to take long detours. Past reports from local news noted that the project faced delays while waiting for environmental permits and funding negotiations. The new crossing will follow federal rules to protect fish habitats in the nearby river while restoring a critical path for the agricultural community.
