Environment Canada is warning residents in Neepawa, Manitoba, to prepare for strong winds and blowing snow starting the night of February 26, 2026. Northwest winds are expected to reach speeds of 50 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h, creating poor visibility on local roads through Friday afternoon.

Temperatures will drop quickly from a high of 0 C on Thursday to -13 C by Friday afternoon. This sharp change, combined with wind chills reaching -22, could lead to icy patches on roads and gravel driveways. The blowing snow is expected to be heaviest during the morning and early afternoon on February 27, 2026.

The Town of Neepawa plans to focus its snow clearing efforts on main streets and routes leading to seniors’ facilities. High winds often lead the Beautiful Plains School Division to cancel bus service, though schools usually remain open for students who can get there safely. Drivers should be ready for difficult conditions on major routes like Highway 16 and Highway 5.

Denis Saquet, the town’s manager of operations, is responsible for directing crews to keep the streets clear during these winter events. Local officials suggest that commuters check for updates on road conditions as the wind and snow move through the area.
