Residents in New Hamburg, Ontario, should prepare for slippery conditions as a mix of flurries and freezing drizzle is expected to create invisible black ice starting the evening of Friday, February 13, 2026. This weather shift is predicted to make roads and walkways hazardous just as many people begin their travel for Valentine’s Day weekend.

Environment Canada reports a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a risk of freezing drizzle beginning around 6:00 PM on Friday. Strong southwest winds gusting between 30 and 50 km/h are also expected, which could make the temperature feel as cold as -10 C overnight.

The risk of freezing drizzle is expected to persist until at least 5:00 AM on February 14, 2026, creating a thin layer of ice that is difficult for drivers and pedestrians to see. Local officials recommend allowing extra travel time for morning commutes and Saturday morning plans, as surfaces that appear wet may actually be frozen.

According to the Township of Wilmot, property owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the sidewalks next to their land. Residents are also reminded to keep cars off the street between 2:30 AM and 6:00 AM to follow the winter parking ban, which allows municipal crews to treat the roads effectively.

Local transit monitor these conditions closely to evaluate if the weather will affect school bus services or student-related events. Residents are encouraged to check for real-time weather updates before heading out for the day.
