The Central York Chamber of Commerce is organizing its annual Bike Day in Newmarket, Ontario, to encourage residents to ride their bicycles to work and local stores. While a specific date for the 2026 event has not been released yet, the Chamber has added Bike Day to its 2026 events listings on its website; the date is listed as TBA.
This year’s event is expected to incorporate new local infrastructure, including the Mulock Multi-Use Path (MUP) — an approximately six-kilometre off-road trail for cyclists and walkers that is anticipated to be finished in Spring 2026. Organizers plan to include a bike parade and shopping incentives to help residents see cycling as a practical way to reach the downtown area and other business hubs.
The Chamber is partnering with Smart Commute Central York. Smart Commute offers an online/app-based tool that can record trips and estimate greenhouse-gas savings; organizers say the tool helps participants measure the commute and environmental impacts of choosing active transportation. The event usually features family activities and prize draws for gift cards and other prizes that can be used at local businesses on Main Street and across town.
According to the Central York Chamber of Commerce, the initiative is designed to help reduce traffic congestion and support local shop owners by bringing in more customers. Bike Day has historically been centered at the Chamber parking lot on Davis Drive and linked with nearby trails such as the Tom Taylor Trail; for 2026 organizers say they plan to leverage connections to the new Mulock Multi-Use Path and the upcoming Mulock Park as those projects come online.
