On February 14, 2026, the provincial government announced new funding that allows community groups and the town of Niverville, Manitoba, to apply for grants to improve and repair local recreational trails. Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes said $218,045 was recently awarded to five organizations through the Manitoba government as part of a $600,000 annual investment.

Local organizations can apply for a maximum of $50,000 per project to fix damage on shared-use trails or to create new outdoor spaces. These grants are designed to help municipalities and volunteer groups maintain safe paths for the community, including repairs to sections of the Crow Wing Trail. Groups like the Crow Wing Trail Association and the Niverville Recreation Department are eligible to submit proposals for these upgrades.

Potential projects in the area include expanding the walking paths at the Niverville Wetlands and improving local cross-country ski networks. The funds can also be used for winter grooming equipment and other safety improvements. Additional support for the application process is available through Trails Manitoba.

Niverville has already started improving its winter trails by using new grooming equipment at Hespeler Park, and facility manager Warren Britton noted the town is also considering snow-making machinery. Applications for the 2026 cycle are now open through the Manitoba Environment and Climate Change website.
