The Niverville Nighthawks are just one victory away from moving to the next round of the hockey playoffs after taking a 3-0 series lead over the Winkler Flyers in Niverville, Manitoba. The team is trying to win its first-ever playoff round since joining the league as a new franchise in 2022.
On March 25, 2026, the team won a tight 3-2 game at the Niverville Community Resource and Recreation Centre. Goaltender Austin Dubinsky made 24 saves to help the team win, while John Scott scored the deciding goal in the third period.
The club is finishing a record-breaking year where it took first place in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League with 103 points. This was the highest point total for any team in the league since the pandemic, and the team is currently ranked as the second-best junior hockey club in Canada by the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
Head coach Dwight Hirst says the players are learning to handle the pressure that comes with being a top-ranked team. The next game in the best-of-seven series takes place tonight, March 27, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Winkler Centennial Arena.
