Drivers in Niverville, Manitoba, should expect dangerous road conditions this Sunday, January 18, 2026, as strong winds and fresh snow move through the Red River Valley. Environment Canada has issued a MetNote valid from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CST warning of blowing snow and very poor travel conditions across the region.
Winds are expected to increase to around 50 km/h with gusts to about 70 km/h, which Environment Canada says can produce ground-blizzard or near‑zero visibility conditions at times. Drivers should check Manitoba 511 for up-to-date road conditions and possible closures on major routes, including Highway 311 and Highway 75, before setting out.
This will be one of the first major winter tests for the new Niverville Municipal RCMP detachment, which opened to the public on Nov. 3, 2025. Local authorities are advising residents to avoid travel if possible; safety advisories also warn that blowing snow combined with underlying black ice can make vehicle control difficult.
To help with cleanup, the Town of Niverville is asking residents to follow local winter parking rules so snow plows can clear streets. The town enforces a Winter Snow Route parking ban (in effect Nov. 1–May 1); vehicles left on designated snow routes may be ticketed and towed to ensure emergency vehicles and plows can access the roads safely.
