Norway House Cree Nation, Manitoba, will host the Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games from July 8 to July 12, 2026. The multi-sport event returns to the province for the first time since 2011, ending a 14-year hiatus.
Organizers originally planned to hold the competition in 2025, but the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports & Recreation Council (MASRC) board voted on June 9, 2024 to postpone the games to 2026, citing the wildfire emergency and province-wide states of emergency that affected participant safety and air quality across northern Manitoba. The decision was made to keep participants safe and to allow communities to focus on emergency response and recovery.
The week will feature sports such as volleyball, soccer and badminton, alongside traditional events including York Boat Racing. The Norway House Cree Nation (NHCN) Parks & Recreation Division is leading local preparations to host over 4,000 youth athletes, coaches and officials and to welcome visiting spectators.
Community members are encouraged to volunteer or register to compete.
