Perimeter Aviation has dedicated its newest Dash-8 aircraft to the late Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Grand Chief Cathy Merrick, a move that will provide more flight options for residents in Norway House, Manitoba. The airline announced on February 18, 2026, that the plane, officially identified as C-GYCM, now carries her initials as a permanent tribute to her work for northern communities.
The new aircraft is expected to fly the main route connecting Winnipeg, Cross Lake, and Norway House. This addition to the fleet provides the community with more consistent service and extra backup when other planes are being repaired for maintenance.
According to Perimeter Aviation, the dedication recognizes the legacy of Merrick, who was the first woman to serve as Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs. Merrick, who was from the Pimicikamak Cree Nation, passed away in September 2024 while advocating for Indigenous rights in Winnipeg.
This tribute follows a 10-year partnership agreement signed between the airline and the Norway House Cree Nation in December 2023. The agreement was designed to improve local air travel and support the transportation needs of the community for the long term.
