Norway House, Manitoba, is preparing to host a series of major athletic events and provincial meetings throughout 2026 to boost youth sports and showcase the community. Local organizers are working to welcome thousands of athletes, coaches and families — organizers previously projected more than 4,000 participants across the two host communities in planning materials — for high-profile hockey competitions and the return of a large-scale summer sports festival.

The Norway House Minor Hockey Association is coordinating with provincial leaders in the lead-up to the Hockey Manitoba semi‑annual meetings scheduled for February 27, 2026. These meetings are expected to bring hockey officials from across the province to the northern region just before the first weekend of provincial playdowns begins on March 6, 2026.

Local players are training at the Kinosao Sipi Multiplex (the Norway House Cree Nation recreation complex). These venues are being prepared to handle the large number of athletes and families expected to visit the community during the busy winter and summer seasons.

The community is also getting ready for the Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games, which will take place in Norway House Cree Nation from July 8 to July 12, 2026 (the Games were postponed from 2025 to 2026). This marks the return of large-scale multi-sport Indigenous competitions to the region after roughly a 14‑year hiatus, and will feature competitions including soccer, softball and traditional York Boat racing.

Organizers are using current hockey programs and the local hockey culture — with the Norway House North Stars serving as a local Junior B aspirational club — to help identify and prepare youth for the upcoming summer events. The effort aims to keep local children active year-round and further establish the area as a hub for sports in Northern Manitoba.
