Students from Norway House, Manitoba, travelled to Winnipeg to showcase their musical skills at the 57th Annual Festival du Voyageur on February 21, 2026. The Frontier Fiddlers, a student group representing the Frontier School Division, took the stage at the Tente des neiges venue for a morning performance.
The group includes students from the Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre in Norway House. This music program gives students in Northern Manitoba the opportunity to learn traditional fiddle music and participate in major regional cultural festivals.
The fiddling program started in 1994 with a small group of students and has since grown to include 10 traveling instructors. These teachers travel more than 175,000 kilometres every year to provide music lessons to various communities throughout the school division.
In 2022, the program was inducted into the Canadian Fiddle Hall of Honour for its role in preserving cultural heritage. The performance in Winnipeg allowed the students to share their skills and represent their home community on a provincial stage.
