The Norway House Cree Nation (NHCN) in Manitoba will hold a public nomination meeting on January 27, 2026, to begin naming candidates for the upcoming community election. Members are scheduled to gather from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM to nominate and second candidates for one (1) Chief and six (6) Councillor positions.
This meeting marks the formal start of the electoral cycle leading to the General Election, which is expected to take place on March 10, 2026. Eligible community members should attend the nomination meeting to nominate or second the person they want on the ballot.
The Electoral Officer, Stephanie Connors, will oversee candidate nominations and verify that submissions follow the community’s Election Act and procedures. This election concludes the community’s first full four-year term: Chief Larson Anderson and his council were elected in March 2022.
A key focus for the next council will be the continued operation of the Kinosew Sipi Nanatawiwekamik Health Centre of Excellence. The large, $100M+ facility formally began taking over local health services in late 2025 (services moved beginning Sept. 26, 2025) and is a central element of local health delivery and the community’s economy.
