The Norway House Cree Nation will welcome thousands of young athletes from across the province for the first phase of the 2026 Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games in Norway House, Manitoba. This event, taking place from July 8, 2026, to July 12, 2026, brings together Indigenous youth to compete in sports and celebrate their shared heritage.
The Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games are being co-hosted by Norway House and the Sagkeeng Anicinabe Nation. The Southern Chiefs’ Organization is partnering on the event, which was originally set for 2025 but was pushed back because of wildfires in the province. While Norway House hosts the opening week, a second phase of competitions will follow in the Sagkeeng Anicinabe Nation from August 10 to August 15, 2026.
This event marks a major comeback for the competition after a 15-year break, with the last games held in 2011. Local families can look forward to seeing several sports during the week, including volleyball competitions for players in under-14 and under-17 divisions.
The games offer First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth a chance to connect through athletic disciplines and cultural activities. Organizers are encouraging community members to get involved as volunteers to help host the visiting families and athletes.
