A free four-day training program called Camp Molly is coming to Orangeville, Ontario, from July 2-5, 2026, to give young women and non-binary youth a chance to try out a career in the fire service. This hands-on camp focuses on building confidence and teamwork while introducing participants to the daily life of a first responder.
Participants will get to practice real firefighting tasks, such as putting out fires, using heavy tools to rescue people from car crashes, and performing emergency medical procedures. These activities are designed to give youth a clear understanding of the work involved in being a firefighter.
The program is named after Molly Williams, who is known as the first female and Black firefighter in North America. Organizations like Fire Service Women Ontario support the initiative to help more young people see themselves in a firefighting career.
By connecting youth with mentors who are already in the industry, the camp provides a pathway for the next generation of firefighters. Information on how to register for the July 2026 program will be released at a later date.
