Cardboard Slingers, a local hobby shop in Oromocto, New Brunswick, will host an Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) gaming session on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The shop’s website lists its location at 268 Restigouche Road.

The event is organized by David Garvin, an infantry officer in the Canadian Army and ASL Tournament Director who has frequently contributed to the wargaming site No Dice No Glory. The session, starting at 12:00 p.m., is intended to help local residents connect and learn the nuances of this detailed WWII tactical simulation.

Organizers are encouraging both experienced players and newcomers to attend. For those unfamiliar with ASL, the day will include beginner-friendly options — Garvin commonly uses events like this to introduce ASL “Starter Kits” or provide mentoring to new players, which helps beginners start without having to master the full ruleset immediately.

The gathering aims to build a stronger local face-to-face wargaming community, particularly among residents interested in military history and tactical strategy. Given Oromocto’s proximity to CFB Gagetown and the Fredericton area, the store hopes the public event will help grow the hobby locally.
