The Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa, Ontario, will host the Ontario Open International Jiu-Jitsu Championships on May 2 and May 3, 2026. This major tournament, the largest of its kind in the province, is expected to draw over 1,500 competitors to the city for two days of competition.

The event is sanctioned by the Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Association (OJA) and organized by the Open International event team (OpenJiuJitsu). It will feature divisions for all ages, from kids through adult and masters categories.

Local businesses are expected to see a significant boost, as the tournament typically fills nearby hotels and brings increased foot traffic to restaurants and shops along the Highway 401 corridor. Oshawa Tourism data show single-day events have generated more than $1 million in local spending; for example, the 2024 Convergence Music & Art Festival generated an estimated $1.16 million in one day.

The Ontario Open is open to the public to watch, giving residents a chance to see high-level martial arts in their own community. The venue has a long history of holding major athletic events, including serving as the site for boxing and weightlifting during the 2015 Pan American Games, and continues to be a central hub for sports in the Durham Region.
