The Friends of the Oshawa Public Library are hosting the Spring Reads used book sale from April 16 to April 18, 2026, in Oshawa, Ontario. The event takes place in the auditorium of the McLaughlin Branch, which is located at 65 Debwewin Miikan. This street was renamed from Bagot Street in 2024 to support local reconciliation efforts, with the new name meaning Truth Road in the Anishinaabemowin language.

The sale runs from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18. Visitors can find a large selection of bargain books and magazines that help fund library projects and local services. A ramp on the west side of the building along Queen Street provides easy access for all shoppers to enter the sale.

Residents who wish to donate books or magazines can drop them off at the south shipping and receiving entrance of the branch. Donors should use the call button at the door to reach staff who can provide access to the dedicated donation shelves. These contributions help the volunteer group raise the necessary money for services that the regular city budget does not cover.

Money from the sale helps pay for community tools like the Memory Lab, which allows residents to turn old photos and records into digital files. These proceeds also support general programs and technology for the more than 170,000 people who use the library system in Oshawa. The volunteer group also raises money through film events like Cinefest Durham to help pay for these special community projects.

Before the book sale begins, the volunteer group will hold its annual public meeting on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the McLaughlin Branch. This meeting is open to anyone who wants to learn about the group’s work or sign up as a volunteer. Participants can hear about upcoming priorities for the library and how previous sales have helped the community.
