Police Arrest Man After Fake Gun Threat At Oshawa Hospital

A 46-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly showed a fake gun and made threats at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in Oshawa, Ontario. The incident happened on the evening of February 11, 2026, and ended without any physical injuries to patients, visitors, or hospital staff.

According to the Durham Regional Police Service, two men were involved in an argument outside the entrance to the emergency department at approximately 8:35 p.m. During the dispute, one man pulled out what looked like a firearm and made threats before running inside the hospital building.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the suspect inside the facility. Police identified the man as Lorne Fredrick McConnell of Oshawa and discovered that he was already under a court order that prohibited him from having any weapons.

McConnell is now facing several charges, including assault with a weapon, possessing a dangerous weapon, and failing to comply with his release and probation orders. Investigator Cst. Vanberkel is asking anyone with information or video of the incident to contact the police.
