The Oshawa Public Libraries is hosting a special Ukrainian Story Time for families on January 15, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the McLaughlin Branch in Oshawa, Ontario. This family-oriented program celebrates Ukrainian language and culture through traditional stories, songs and play specifically for children from birth to six years old.
The session will take place at the McLaughlin Branch located at 65 Debwewin Miikan. During the 45-minute program, children will enjoy picture books, nursery rhymes and interactive play presented in Ukrainian or bilingually (Ukrainian and English) while their parents and caregivers connect with other members of the community.
This initiative follows a goal set in the library’s 2024 Business Plan to offer more programs in different languages to reflect the city’s changing population. According to the 2021 Census, Oshawa was home to roughly 11,000 people of Ukrainian descent, and the Research Dossier notes that number is estimated to have grown since 2022 as more families have settled in the area.
Residents interested in joining the program can sign up through the library’s Events Calendar (BiblioCommons). Registration for the initial date has already reached capacity; the library uses a waitlist for cancellations and encourages families to check the Events page for future dates in the series.
